Joseph KAMGNO, is Professor of Public Health graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Yaoundé I and graduated in epidemiology from the Institut Pasteur in Paris, holder of a Master in public health and a doctorate (PhD) in epidemiology from the Pierre et Marie Curie University of Paris VI. He is currently Full Professor and head of the Department of Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He is since 2005, Founder and Director of the Center for Research on Filariasis and other Tropical Diseases with to date employs 25 young and talented scientists, physicians, pharmacies, lab technicians and nurses. He is a Fellow of the Cameroon Academy of Sciences. His main areas of research are infectious diseases, (mapping, clinical trials and impact assessments of mass treatment campaigns). In his research activities, he has also worked on prevalence, risk factor and community impact of epilepsy. He carried out the complete mapping of lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis and loiasis in Cameroon.

He has conducted more than Ten clinical trials for the improvement of the treatment of filariasis. His main achievement is the identification of loiasis as the main risk factor of post ivermectin Severe Adverse Reactions, and the development of a new strategy for the control of onchocerciasis in loiasis co-endemic areas, the Test and not Treat Strategy. He is author and co-author of 150 publications in scientific journals among which the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet and Sciences Translational Medicine. He received the official testimony of satisfaction from the Minister of Health in 2010, and won the Islamic Development Bank Price for Sciences and Technology in 2015 for his contribution to the social and economic development of Cameroon. He is married, and father of five children.
